Tehran NAM summit to show Iran active intl. diplomacy

(Ahlul Bayt News Agency) - An Iranian legislator says the forthcoming Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) summit in Tehran shows that Iran is not an isolated country and that it is active on an international level.

“The isolated are actually those who think they rule the world, but are despised by world nations as a result of their expansionist and arrogant policies,” Esmail Kowsari, a member of the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, told Fars News Agency on Tuesday.

He added, “Hosting the NAM summit, given the 120 member states of the movement, marks a mammoth task.”

The lawmaker said the fact that NAM member states have expressed desire to take part in the Tehran summit either at foreign ministerial or expert level attest to the significance of the political task undertaken by the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Kowsari further noted that the presence of the NAM member states in Tehran summit will exhibit dynamism of the Iranian political and foreign policy figures in the regional and international spheres.

“Those speaking of Iran's isolation are only a small number of countries, including the US, Britain, France and the Zionists, which think they own the world. Because Iran doesn’t take any note of them, they want to reach their goals through arrogance and pressure,” he pointed out.

The Iranian lawmaker further noted that arrogant powers are making claims of Iran's isolation in the international community since the Islamic Republic has stood against them.

Kowsari highlighted that Iran enjoys close political, economic and cultural ties with most world countries.

The 16th summit of the NAM member states will be held in the Iranian capital between August 26 and 31.

The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei will address the Tehran NAM summit.

The United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon is also expected to participate in the event during which the Islamic Republic will assume the rotating presidency of the movement for three years.

NAM, an international organization with 120 member states and 21 observer countries, is considered as not formally aligned with or against any major power bloc.
